Fair trade

ABRAM’s commitment to fair trade

Produce differently, consume differently, live differently.

At ABRAM, fair trade is much more than an economic sector: it’s a way of forging lasting links between producers, consumers and regions, while respecting the Earth and human rights.

Promoting local know-how

In Brazil’s Cerrado region, ABRAM has been supporting local production and agroecological processing initiatives for several years, working directly with rural communities and traditional peoples.

Among these actions, the creation of a cooperative of producers of baru (a native Cerrado almond) is a perfect illustration of our approach:

  • – Support sustainable harvesting practices and enhance the value of local resources.
  • – Guarantee a fair price for producers.
  • – Open up ethical business opportunities, both locally and internationally.

Baru, a food with high nutritional value, thus becomes a symbol of resilience and economic autonomy, while helping to preserve biodiversity.

When sewing becomes a vehicle for social justice

Following on from the Rafistoleuses du Monde project, ABRAM is also exploring the potential of fair trade in the field of textiles and fair trade crafts.

The women trained in our sewing modules, both in Cavalcante and in Luxembourg, will eventually be able to benefit from economic outlets via short, solidarity-based circuits. The aim is to enable these craftswomen to add value to their creations while integrating environmentally-friendly practices (upcycling, fabric reuse, natural dyes).
